Rowan County, KY Clerk appears in U.S. District Court
Rowan County, Ky. Clerk Kim Davis is scheduled to appear before U.S. District Judge David Bunning in federal court at 11 a.m. in Ashland, Ky. for a contempt of court hearing. Despite orders from as high as the U.S. Supreme Court, Davis has refused to issue same-sex licenses based on her religious beliefs. The elected official faces jail and fines for her refusal to perform her sworn duties.

I support this woman's right to her opinion, however if she truly wishes to protest gay marriage rights, she should resign. How can her religious beliefs allow her to work for a state that has sanctioned something she so vehemently opposes. To refuse to step down is (IMO) hypocritical.

Hearing word that it could be an hour or more before hearing wraps up. #KimDavis
One member of the courthouse security told some close to the door that it could be another hour before the hearing is finished.

The law of the land is not based on the bible. This is not a religious nation. Any elected official agrees to uphold the laws of the land. To say that religion trumps man's law would allow jihadists to roam our streets killing people because their god says so. That's absurd. She should either do her job or resign.

Kentucky Fried Clerk - As citizens, we are not allowed to pick and choose which laws to abide. If we do, then we should be prepared to pay the consequences of those choices. Religion is simply a choice and as long as you are willing to pay for your choice to not obey laws (fines and/or imprisonment) then I am OK with that. However, being a public servant, you probably took an oath to uphold ALL laws to perform your duty. In that case you especially are set to a higher standard and must obey. You should perform all your duties equally and if you cannot for any reason, then step down. Taxpayers of KY should demand that your salary go to someone that can and will perform all duties of the position. I am sure there are plenty of qualified people out there that can perform the duties and can use that nice paycheck! Go work for a church and be happy and make others happy.
Kim Davis is in custody until she signs marriage licenses. Crowd outside erupts in applause

I thought churches were given tax exempt status because of their god works and apolitical positions. Watching these people rant and rave I can't see either happening. Perhaps they should start paying up if they want a voice in government.
